Walter Cecil Johnson, Sr. was born August 16, 1939 in Norfolk Virginia to the late George and Christina Johnson.
At a young age, Walter and his family relocated to Brooklyn, New York where he was educated in the New York City school system. After which, he joined the United States Army, then United States Air Force and was a reservist for many years.
In 1970, Walter began a new chapter of life and became a New York City Corrections Officer. In 1984, Walter was promoted to Captain and performed his duty sufficiently. Walter was known for his cool, calm demeanor in the department. He was promoted to Assistant Deputy Warden in 1989 which was the rank he retired with in 1997.
After retirement Walter continued to work in the private sector as armed security.
Walter enjoyed life and loved his cars especially his Lexus. He enjoyed watching old westerns and listening to ‘ole school’ music. He was an avid animal lover and his four-legged best friend was an American Bull Dog named Master Sergeant. Walter was a calm man never raising his voice but always getting his point across.
Walters’ untimely death has left family and friends speechless and heartbroken but we know he dwells in a much better place.
Walter departed this life on January 13, 2018 at Long Island Jewish Hospital in Long Island New York.
Walter leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his precious memories, his beloved wife Shanti, five sons, Walter Cecil Johnson Jr. of Virginia; Tyler Jackson (Asia) of Virginia; Tyrell Johnson of Virginia; Donnell Johnson of Virginia; Shaquille Johnson of New Jersey; two step children Shadia Weston of New York and Ramel Weston of New York; one sister, Bonnie Johnson (Walter) of Georgia; one brother, Curtis Johnson of Georgia; mother-in-law, Evanner Weston of New York; one sister-in-law, Ronda Perkins of New York; three brother-in-law, Rodney Weston of North Carolina, Charles Weston of New Jersey and Jerry Weston of New York. He also leaves several grandchildren, great grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and co-workers.
Walter was preceded in death by his daughter Regina Johnson, his brothers William Johnson and Huber Johnson and his step son Javon Weston.
