Obituary for Velma Walker

Velma Walker
On November 24th, 1957, God blessed Juanita and Cleave King Sr. with a beautiful baby girl whom they named Velma Klenette King. Velma was born in Brooksville, Florida and later relocated to Jamaica, N.Y.
She was educated under the N.Y. school system and graduated with honors.

She later met and married Jay Walker. As time went on God saw fit to bring into their lives 2 little princesses, Yvette and Keisha. Years later when she thought God was finished blessing her womb, he surprised her with her baby girl Latoya.

Her life’s path later led her to becoming a Home Health Aide. She was kind, caring and patient with each one of her clients and loved them all, even if they gave her a hard time. If you ever wanted to see someone that would give you their last dollar or the shirt off their back, all you had to do was look at Velma. But if you asked for some of her food you might have a little problem.

Sister Velma or mother Walker, as she was known by her church family, loved the Lord with all her heart and soul.

Velma was a prayer warrior and a faithful jewel in the body of Christ. Rain, snow, sleet or hail she could be seen riding down Rockaway Blvd on her way to church.

One of Velma’s greatest fast times was shopping, eating out and sitting around just enjoying her beautiful family.

She was not only a wonderful mother, but she was also an awesome grandmother. Not only to her biological grandkids but to all the kids in the neighborhood. She was their number one defender. In her eyes they can do no wrong.

Velma’s walk with God started at the Full Gospel Mission C.O.G.I.C. under the leadership of Bishop Jerome Norman.

The last 26 years of her life was spent as a faithful member of Zion Glorious Church, where the late Pastor Mary E. Edward and Evangelist Delores Riley were her former pastors. Her last few years were under the leadership of Bishop Samuel Coston.

She was a faithful member of the Women’s Department, outreach committee and the senior choir. One of the greatest traits she instilled in her children was the ability to live, laugh and love. She was very affectionate and loved, hugs and kisses from her family.

From the beginning of her illness her motto has always been “My Good Days Outweigh My Bad Days”, I Wont Complain.

Velma’s mother and father, Juanita and Cleave King Sr. proceeded her in death along with her brothers and sisters George and Calvin King and grandson Ziquan.

She leaves to cherish precious memories of her life 7 brothers, Cleave King Jr. and Timmie King of Brooksville Florida, Lonnie, Vince, William, Dwayne and Clifton all of Jamaica. N.Y. 3 sisters, Linda Easterling of Brooksville, Florida, Sirmone and Fernice Barrow of Jamaica, N.Y. 1 sister in heart Evangelist Arlene Meyers. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving friends along with her Zion Glorious family.
